Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Verified Accountants publishes, the lawful basis for it, how we use cookies and advertising, and how to exercise your rights. Last updated July 2026.

What we publish

We publish business information about accountancy firms, sourced from public registers - principally Companies House and the HMRC register of businesses supervised for anti-money-laundering - and from firms' own public websites. For incorporated firms this is company information. For sole traders and partnerships, some of this information (for example a business name that includes a person's name) may constitute personal data under UK GDPR.

What we do not publish

We do not publish the personal contact details of individuals - such as a sole trader's personal phone number or private email - even where these appear in a source. We show business-level facts and their provenance, not private contact information.

Lawful basis

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: providing an accurate, verifiable public directory that helps people find real, regulated accountancy firms. The underlying data is already published by official registers, much of it under the Open Government Licence. We balance this against the rights of individuals, which is why we exclude personal contact details and honour objections (below).

Your rights

You have the right to access the information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct, update or remove it, or to object to its processing. To make a request - including a sole trader asking to be removed - email privacy@verifiedaccountants.co.uk with the firm name and page URL. We will respond within one month.

Cookies and analytics

Our own pages set no cookies. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to measure how the site is used; it is provided by Google and sets cookies and collects usage data such as pages viewed and approximate location. We do not currently operate a consent banner, so these cookies are set when you visit. You can prevent or remove them using your browser's cookie controls or Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. We intend to add a consent tool for visitors in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland.

Advertising

We show advertising from Google AdSense to support the site. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. We do not currently operate a consent banner, so these cookies are set when you visit. You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings (google.com/settings/ads (opens in new tab)), control cookies through your browser, and learn more from Google's advertising policies (policies.google.com/technologies/ads (opens in new tab)).

Data sources

Companies House data is used under the Open Government Licence. AML-supervision data comes from the HMRC public register. Professional-body membership comes from the bodies' own public records. Specialism information is read from firms' own public websites.
